DEAD MAN’S SHOES

FILM EDITOR

DIR: Shane Meadows | PROD: Warp Films / FilmFour

"An outright masterpiece. Comic, touching and drop-dead terrifying"

DAILY TELEGRAPH

"...a very skilful, superbly edited piece of moviemaking"

THE OBSERVER

"The scene in which Considine terrorises his drugged-up prey is a masterclass in bleary visuals and subjective sound edits"

THE SCOTSMAN

A soldier (Paddy Considine) returns home to his small town and exacts a deadly revenge on the thugs who tormented his dimwitted brother (Toby Kebbell) while he was away. One by one the young hoodlums meet their fates as the soldier releases the hate he feels inside. A blend of horror, the supernatural, comedy and social realism.

Recently ranked No.27 in Empire’s “100 Best British Films Ever”, the film won 4 major awards on release and was nominated for a further 13. Among these was my own British Independent Film Award nomination for Best Technical Achievement for the editing.

BOOTS ON THE GROUND

FILM EDITOR / COLOURIST / ONLINE EDITOR

DIR: Louis Melville | PROD: Last Bullet Films

"It is a great war movie. It is a great heist movie. It is a great horror movie. 4/5"

NERDLY

"Tense, claustrophobic, surprising...a real treat, blending timelines and realities to dizzying effect. Immensely innovative. 4/5"

MOVIE RAMBLINGS

"Encapsulates, from a ground-up perspective, something essential about the fog – and hell – of war"

SCIFI NOW

Hindu Kush, Afghanistan October 2014. War ends at midnight. All the five British soldiers have to do is stay alive till then. As night unfolds time itself seems to move in inexplicable ways to the point where they start to question their own reality.

Premiered at London's FrightFest 2017 in Leicester Square, this innovative feature was the first British film to be shot entirely by its actors. Using a combat documentary approach the whole film is pieced together from helmet mounted cameras, creating an experimentally immersive experience.

BEYOND THE RAVE

FILM EDITOR / COLOURIST / ONLINE EDITOR

DIR: Matthias Hoene | PROD: Hammer Films / Pure Grass Films

“Hammer Horror is back from the dead”

DAILY TELEGRAPH

"...a clever and at times brilliant take on a familiar genre"

THE GUARDIAN

Starring Jamie Dornan (Fifty Shades of Grey, The Fall), Sadie Frost (Bram Stoker's Dracula) Nora-Jane Noone (The Descent, The Magdalene Sisters), and Tamer Hassan (Eastern Promises, The Football Factory) BEYOND THE RAVE delivers all the ingredients of a Hammer classic made for a 21st Century audience: vampires, blood, death and suspense. DJ Pete Tong was the music supervisor, both suggesting tracks based on early edits as well as scoring his own music to fit certain scenes.

BEYOND THE RAVE marked the return of Hammer Films after a thirty year absence. As noted by the DAILY TELEGRAPH: “the film is also at the cutting edge of distribution technology” as it was released on Myspace.tv to 18 countries in 9 different languages, to a potential global audience of 110 million.

DIG YOUR OWN GRAVE

Dig Your Own Grave screen grab

“Dig Your Own Grave has great characters, ideas, and dark humour. Hugely entertaining.”

LEFTLION MAGAZINE

Bob Bass, a hit-man with a bad back, gives his latest victim the chance to live a little longer - by digging his own grave deep in the woods. As Bob's colleagues circle like vultures, an innocent family and their dog wander into the crossfire - and a simple job turns into a bloody nightmare.

A blackly comic recession-hit crime thriller that recalls the off-beat B&W heyday of the British B-movie. Made with a lot of care, love and attention at the sparsely funded end of British independent filmmaking. As well as my work as Editor and Colourist, I can also be heard plucking the double bass on certain parts of the music score. Buy your own copy here.

“The raw style and unassuming good cheer of Big Things recalls the wry, dry TV comedy of Peep Show, The Inbetweeners and The Office. Witty, endearing and confident.”

HANNAH MCGILL

A witty and bracingly real low-budget comedy - for anyone who’s ever given their all to something they weren’t very good at... Would-be filmmaker Richard (Tony Claassen) has a dream - and a script. What he lacks is money, experience, equipment and a cast that can be relied upon to show up for shooting. Backed by his sardonic sidekick Ray (a hilarious Dean Palinczuk from Le Donk & Scorzayzee), Richard fights to get his vision on screen - or at least into a meeting with a regional funding body.

Premiered at the Edinburgh International Film Festival in 2009. My grade for this aimed to help the digital photography achieve the softer and naturally lit, shot-on-film look of cult 1980’s comedies such as Gregory’s Girl and Rita, Sue and Bob Too.
