DIR: Lavinia Greenlaw | PROD: Film and Video Umbrella

"...the sensuousness of her thought and her ability to move between the abstract and the precisely observed remain as potent as ever."

THE GUARDIAN reviewing Lavinia Greenlaw's poetry collection "MINSK"

The Sea is an Edge and an Ending is poet and author Lavinia Greenlaw's first film work as writer and director. The film was produced by Film and Video Umbrella who specialise in moving-image works by artists that are staged in collaboration with galleries and other cultural partners across the UK.

The Sea is an Edge and an Ending is a short film investigating what it means to lose your memory and disappear into the present tense. Its framework is a sequence Lavinia wrote about her father’s death from Alzheimer’s. The film focuses on what it means for your sense of self to come loose and for the past to float free. An excerpt of the written work can be seen here at The Guardian

The film premiered in the Grade II* listed Tilbury Cruise Terminal as part of Estuary 2016, and to date has had subsequent screenings at the Southbank Centre, London as part of their Belief and Beyond Belief festival and also at the Awake But Always Dreaming event at Shoreditch Church, London. The trailer can be viewed above.

IN THE MEADOW

FILM EDITOR / COLOURIST / ONLINE EDITOR

DIR: David A.Smith | PROD: UK Film Council / Sodalite Films

“The film is unsettling and really does show what short films can achieve with tender love and care. My pick from the London Short Film Festival”

IGN UK

“It relentlessly takes you places you didn't expect to go, each scene offered all the more impact by Smith's keen sense of pace. The story grows into a wonderfully sinister study of morality”

LITTLE WHITE LIES

Starring Tuppence Middleton (War and Peace, Jupiter Ascending, The Imitation Game), and Chris Larkin (Master and Commander, Valkyrie). A married man and his younger mistress head into the English countryside for an illicit birthday picnic. As the afternoon progresses, events begin to take a disturbing turn.

Nominated for Best British Short at Edinburgh International Film Festival 2010, and Jane Giles (Head of Content, BFI) selected the film in Sight & Sound’s Highlights of The Year 2010. The film screened at festivals around the world and can be viewed here in full.

DIR: Deborah Haywood | PROD: UK Film Council / EmMedia / Anthem Films

“Sis takes a courageously comic look at society's fear of paedophiles through the eyes of two young girls”

THE GUARDIAN

When Lauren and Amy hear there is a man who 'likes children' living in the area, they decide to track him down to show him their handstands.

SIS was BIFA nominated for Best Short and has won several other awards including Best Short at Soho Rushes Short Film Festival 2010, Best Short at London United Film Festival 2010, and the Audience Prize at Wimbledon International Short Film Festival 2011.

GARY THE RAPPER vs STEFAN BLIX

FILM EDITOR / COLOURIST / ONLINE EDITOR

DIR: Mark Devenport | PROD: Fourmost Films / Albany Road Films

“It approaches the men’s loneliness with light heartedness and Dean Palinczuk, who plays Gary, puts in a particularly good comic turn”

GORILLA FILM

A has-been and a never-was battle their neurosis to finish a rap track together. Reclusive has-been Stefan lives in the shadow of his former success (5 minutes of fame in a forgotten micro-genre). Shy office worker Gary finally wants to manifest his latent talent for hip hop. Their collaboration will either break them out of their stasis, break THEM, or both.

Premiered at the 2014 BFI London Film Festival, the film has successfully gone on from there to other festivals such as the London Short Film Festival, the New Wave Short Film Festival, the CineFringe Film Festival as part of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and the British Shorts Festival, Berlin.

BOAT DREAMS

FILM EDITOR / COLOURIST / ONLINE EDITOR

DIR: Sasha Andrews | PROD: UK Film Council / EmMedia / Sodalite Films

“This film spoke to me on so many levels – from a desire to leave the modern world in search of adventure, to reclaiming the lost pieces of our discarded past, to unending and never dying tenacity.”

MORGAN SPURLOCK

A cautionary tale of three characters whose DIY projects have got out of hand. Unable to afford a fully-functioning boat each has bought a landlocked craft in varying states of dilapidation. We watch as they work on their ultimate escape project. Will they break out of the boat 'graveyard' or are their vessels an alternative shed to tinker in that offer no ultimate destination?

Awarded Film of the Month, June 2011 on Shooting People, and winner of Best International Short at the Stranger Than Fiction Festival. BOAT DREAMS screened at over thirty festivals worldwide, including the London Short Film Festival and Palm Springs International Film Festival.
